Where the Poppies

The modern bathroom requires a delicate balance between openness and privacy. "Where The Poppies Sing" is a prime example of how original artwork can solve this design challenge.

Instead of relying on generic frosted or textured glass, this project utilizes a custom printed privacy band. This "modesty band" places art strategically on the glass to obscure the body while maintaining an open, airy feel in the shower enclosure. It allows homeowners to have their fine art and their functional shower glass, too.

The Concept

Functional art for the modern bath

The modern bathroom requires a delicate balance between openness and privacy. "Where The Poppies Sing" is a prime example of how original artwork can solve this design challenge.

Instead of relying on generic frosted or textured glass, this project utilizes a custom printed privacy band. This "modesty band" places art strategically on the glass to obscure the body while maintaining an open, airy feel in the shower enclosure. It allows homeowners to have their fine art and their functional shower glass, too.

The Technology

Ceramic frit durability

Beauty meets resilience in this installation. The floral imagery is applied using Ceramic Frit Printing Technology.

  • Permanent Fusion: The inks are fused directly into the glass during the tempering process.
  • High Durability: The design is resistant to fading, scratching, and harsh bathroom cleaning agents.
  • Opacity Control: The technology allows for varying levels of opacity, creating depth of shadow and color while ensuring privacy where it matters most.

Notable Design Elements

Customization meets nature

  • Customizable Privacy & Sight Lines One size does not fit all when it comes to privacy. The placement of the floral graphics can be fully customized and scaled to any area of the glass. This allows clients to dictate their own sight lines and modesty areas based on the specific layout of their bathroom and the height of the users.
  • Biophilic Design & Color Matching The olive green tones used in this project introduce an organic, biophilic design aesthetic, connecting the bather to nature.
    • Custom Color Matching: We can match inks to specific tile or paint swatches.
    • True Color Clarity: We utilized Low Iron Glass for this project. Standard glass has a slight green tint, but Low Iron glass is crystal clear. This ensures the white tiles inside the shower look truly white, and the art colors render exactly as intended.
  • Space-Saving Layout As shown in the Boston Glass Group showroom, this project features a Neo-Angle configuration. This 3-panel design is an excellent space-saver, perfect for maximizing floor space in smaller bathroom layouts without sacrificing luxury.
